Terms of Service

Version 2026-11-draft-1

Portage Music ("Portage") is operated by Red Road Innovation Group Inc. ("RRIG", "we"), 200-44 ByWard Market Square, [Ottawa, Ontario, K1N 7A2]. By creating an account you agree to these terms. Contact: hello@portagemusic.ca.

1. What Portage does

Portage lets artists submit music to briefs posted by film, TV, advertising, game and other music buyers. Screeners review submissions and write notes. Tracks that fit a brief and can clear may be forwarded to the buyer.

2. No guarantee of results

We do not guarantee that a track will be forwarded, licensed or paid for, or that briefs matching your music will be available. Your membership pays for access to the service and for screening with written notes.

3. Accounts

You must be of the age of majority where you live to create an account. Give accurate information, keep your password private, and tell us if you think your account has been used without permission. We may suspend accounts that break these terms.

4. Your music and your rights

You keep ownership of your music. You give RRIG a non-exclusive, revocable licence to store your audio and share it with Portage screeners, and with the buyer of a brief when your track is forwarded, only so they can evaluate it. No licence for broadcast or other use is granted until you sign a separate agreement for a placement. Deals are non-exclusive unless you agree otherwise in writing.

5. What you promise

For everything you upload, you confirm that you own or control the rights you state, that your rights and MAPL answers are true, and that the music does not infringe anyone's rights. You will not upload uncleared samples.

6. Traditional and community-held knowledge

You must not submit traditional songs, stories or other community-held cultural knowledge without permission from those with authority to give it. We may remove material if a concern is raised.

7. Indigenous self-identification

Identifying as an Indigenous artist is optional and self-declared. We do not verify it unless we announce a verification process. You must not make a false claim. Knowingly false claims may lead to suspension.

8. Fees

Membership is $179 CAD a year and includes 12 submissions. The first 100 members pay $99 CAD for their first year. Extra submissions are $8 CAD each. Applicable taxes are shown at checkout where they apply. Membership does not renew automatically. Unused submissions remain usable only while your membership is active.

9. Refunds

Fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.

10. Commission

If a track is licensed through Portage, RRIG earns 15% of the licence fee. The commission applies only to placements arising from a Portage brief. Details of each placement are confirmed in writing before it is finalized.

11. Buyers

Posting a brief is free. Briefs must describe real opportunities and are reviewed before publishing. Buyers may use submitted tracks for evaluation only, must not copy or share them, and must obtain a licence before any other use.

12. Conduct

Do not misuse the service, access other people's content, upload malicious files or harass anyone. Screeners do not review their own tracks or tracks by their relatives.

13. Removing music and closing your account

You can close your account at any time from your account page. We then delete your audio and withdraw pending submissions. We may keep records the law requires or that are needed for placements already made.

14. Liability

The service is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, RRIG is not liable for indirect or consequential losses, and our total liability is limited to the fees you paid in the 12 months before the claim.

15. Governing law and changes

These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there, subject to any mandatory rights in your province. We will give notice of material changes before they take effect.
